Liverpool Set to be crowned 2019/2020 EPL Champions after this UEFA decision

If at the start of March you’d have told any Liverpool fan they wouldn’t have won the Premier League title by now, they’d never have believed you.

It was just a matter of time before Jurgen Klopp's side were crowned champions in sensational style, winning 27 of their 29 matches.
Just two more wins would have guaranteed the trophy but, in truth, they could have lost all of their remaining matches and still claimed the title.
But then came along the coronavirus pandemic.
Now, there are bigger things to worry about than Liverpool winning the league. But you can’t exactly blame Kopites for wondering what will happen to the 2019/20 campaign.
Well, they were handed some apparent good news from UEFA on Thursday.
During the confederations meeting, UEFA effectively took the ‘null and void’ option off the table. The Telegraph report that means Liverpool are now “set to be 2019/20 champions” whether the season is finished or not.

UEFA insisted domestic leagues would be settled on “sporting merit” to help decide qualification for European competitions. That essentially means a points-per-game system.
They offered the idea of a play-off - or a mini tournament to declare European qualification and relegation. Considering they’re 37 points ahead of fifth-place, Liverpool would be spared that process.
But that bottom line was that UEFA want the 2019/20 season to be finished one way or another - and the Premier League agrees.

At the moment, the Premier League plan to finish all remaining games behind closed doors with June 8 pencilled in as a date for the season to restart with matches played between a minimum of five weeks and a maximum of an eight-week period. It is hoped that the 2020-21 season will then start on August 22.
But whichever way you look at it, it seems almost certain that Liverpool will be crowned champions whether the season will be finished or not.
