Players to watch
Edin Dzeko has hit the ground running this campaign. The former Manchester City striker has already bagged 10 goals and one assist in only 13 games across all competitions.
Alvaro Morata and Michy Batshuayi have both done well in front of goal so this season. Both strikers have contributed seven goals each, while Eden Hazard has scored three and provided four assists.
Team form and manager quotes
The Giallorossi have been on a good run of form since the previous encounter with the Blues, which resulted in a 3-3 draw at Stamford Bridge. They have won three consecutive Serie A games, all with a 1-0 scoreline. Their most recent victory was against Bologna on Saturday.
As it stands, Roma are second in the group with five points, two behind leaders Chelsea, and would leapfrog the west London club with a victory in front of their home support.
“We faced a tough Bologna side that played their game. We created a lot and we should have been more clinical [Roma won 1-0]. All I know is that we have Chelsea on Tuesday and we have to recover by then,” Roma boss Eusebio Di Francesco told the press.
“I changed a lot of players today so that we can be fresher and more determined for the match. I want to keep our chances of moving on alive so we will try to win.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea have also enjoyed a successful spell after the last clash with Roma. They beat Watford, Everton and Bournemouth in their last three fixtures in all competitions.
A victory for Antonio Conte’s side would open up a five-point lead and maintain their unbeaten record, having won two and drawn one of their three group games.
“I feel like I’m a better manager compared to before. We must not forget that last season we didn’t play in any European competition, it’s important for any team to play in this big tournament [the Champions League],” Conte said.
“Our aim is to give it our best shot, to try our hardest and to go as far as possible.”
Team news
The hosts will be without Bruno Peres and Rick Karsdorp, while Kostas Manolas and Gregoire Defrel are both doubts.
The visitors are unable to call on injured duo N’Golo Kante and Victor Moses.
